Writings about my artistic work.
One of my main artistic practices is hoop manipulation. Currently I’m inspired by destroying the shape of the hoop.
RECOVER LABORATORY: Underneath
Underneath, a new art experience by Recover Laboratory, invites you to come under the ground and into yourself. It is an unforgettable, absurd journey to all things humane and being a human, set in a public shelter in Meilahti, Helsinki. Here, you can escape the heavy weight of reality into a parallel dimension, underneath everything.
The artwork takes the form of a labyrinth under the ground. It is filled with art, circus, theather, sound, light, video, music and anything else. All the individual artworks come together underneath the ground and underneath the skin, and create an ever-expanding holistic world, where everything is important. You can look, you can join, you can touch, you can feel, examine or withdraw.
RECOVER LABORATORY ON STAGE: Kajaanista Kuuhun
Kajaanista Kuuhun combines hoop manipulation and live drums, directed by a visual artist. It is a dispute between the two performers and their respective equipments. It is an imaginary journey from the small Finnish town of Kajaani, all the way to the Moon. During the journey we experience long limbs, loss of gravity, moonquakes, rattle and electric shocks.
The tension between sound and movement can be so intense that it is impossible to separate the two. Similarly, the performers work as a unit, taking different kinds of roles fluidly during the performance, and carrying it forth together. The performers are consciously letting go of the artist’s self-censorship and self-consciousness.
This work is an imaginary journey from the small Finnish town called Kajaani, all the way to the Moon. During the journey we experience long limbs, loss of gravity, moonquakes, rattle and electric shocks.
Performer licked the hands of the sculptor.
Chocolate Hoop is a first tasting of Recover Laboratory’s new series of artworks, that questions the meaning and form of circus equipments. In the series a fine artist sculpts equipments for the performers. Equipments that cannot fully do what they are supposed to. Chocolate hoop is the nightmare of the circus performer: what happens when the equipment becomes useless? The sculptor sculpts. The equipments come and go.
RECOVER LABORATORY 2014–
Recover Laboratory is a multi-sensory, immersive art experience. It is an interdisciplinary labyrinth, born in the steamy crossroads of contemporary art and contemporary circus. The artwork is strongly site-specific and it changes and evolves with every theme and place. Performers, sounds, artworks and other stimuli are scattered along the path. They are designed to draw the viewer’s thoughts into the deep unknown as each of them walks through the labyrinth alone. The work is a personal experience where every viewer can submerge themselves in their own desired way. Recover Laboratory an immersive performance, an installation, a gallery, a concert of senses, a ritual, a personal journey.
